Description: This is one of two Rogers Game Boards of this type I have owned. It has a great lithographed paper cover on a wooden box that opens to reveal a backgammon board. On the bottom of the outside is a checkerboard. The cover illustrates a gold medal award: “World’s Columbian Exhibition in commemoration of the four hundredth anniversary of the landing of Columbus in 1892.” The Exhibition was in 1893. The medal was awarded to the Rogers Manifold & Carbon Paper Co. Also illustrated on the cover is a carbon paper package and most importantly a Rogers Ribbon Reel Box with a crank handle. This may be the first metal box that held typewriter ribbons with a patented woven edge. A notice inside the game boards said carbon paper sheets were enclosed in “tin foil cases according to a process patented July 23,1889.” I date the game boards to 1893.
